The neighborhood of Buckner Terrace is located in far East Dallas, TX to the south and east of White Rock Lake. The neighborhood consists of several phases of the Buckner Terrace subdivision as well as a few smaller subdivisions which are collectively referred to as Buckner Terrace.
The neighborhood boundaries are I30 to the north, Lawnview to the west, Forney Road to the south, and Buckner Road to the east. The legal subdivision of Buckner Terrace also extends to the north of I30, but this area is not included within the boundaries of the present-day Buckner Terrace Neighborhood Association and is now commonly referred to the Lakeland Hills Neighborhood.
Life in Buckner Terrace
Buckner Terrace is located very close to the major thoroughfare of I30 which makes commuting to all areas of Dallas convenient. I30 connects to LBJ Freeway just a short distance to the east of Buckner Terrace, and downtown Dallas is just a few miles drive to the west on I30. There are plenty of grocery stores, restaurants and other shopping located within a short distance from Buckner Terrace
Recreation and Entertainment:
- Everglade Park, located within the boundaries of Buckner Terrace on the east side of Jim Miller Road just south of Samuell Boulevard, is a city of Dallas public park that has a baseball diamond, basketball court and a public swimming pool. The fee to swim in the pool is $1 for children under 12 yrs. and $2 for all over 12 and over. The pool is open during the summer from 1-8PM Thursdays through Sundays during the summer swim season.
- Buckner Terrace is located just a short distance from White Rock Lake, which is the recreational focal point of East Dallas and offers a wide variety of activities for all ages and interests.
- The Fraternal Order of Eagles pool is located in the nearby neighborhood of Little Forest Hills.

Buckner Terrace Voluntary Homeowner’s Association
The Buckner Terrace home owner’s association is a voluntary neighborhood association that exists solely to foster interests of residents and the community, working with many businesses and city officials to promote a sense of community in Buckner Terrace. Membership is 100% voluntary and the dues are a modest $24 per year (as of 2013). The association sponsors fun events, such as social gatherings at local restaurants. They also award a yard-of-the-month to a lucky resident who receives a gift card and recognition in the monthly newsletter.
The home owner’s association is incorporated as a Texas non-profit and is a member of the South and East Dallas Chambers of Commerce. The neighborhood also publishes a monthly newsletter that is sent to all of the approximately 2,600 homes covered within the boundaries of the neighborhood association. The boundaries of the neighborhood association are I30 to the north, Lawnview to the west, Forney road to the south, and Buckner Road to the west (excluding the Buckner Terrace subdivision phases that are north of I30). There is no organized neighborhood association for the section of Buckner Terrace located north of I30.
The neighborhood association is very active in the community and holds monthly meetings (every month but December) that are open to all members of the neighborhood association as well as the general public. The meetings begin with a crime watch update and then transition to topics of interest to the neighborhood association and its members. Meetings are held in the auditorium of at Edna Rowe Elementary School at 6:30PM on the last Tuesday of every month except for December. The meetings often feature guest speakers such as Dallas Police Chief David Brown, state representative Eric Johnson and other community, business, and civic leaders.

Buckner Terrace Homes and Real Estate
Most homes in Buckner Terrace are one-story, many of which were built on pier and beam foundations. There are many advantages to having a pier and beam foundation, especially in the hot Texas climate. The earlier subdivisions were built starting in the early 1960s through the mid 1970s. Some newer subdivisions, including the subdivision of Everglade Park, were mostly built in the early to mid 1980s and many of those homes have slab foundations.
Some reasons why home buyers choose to live in the Buckner Terrace area:
- Homes are built on lots that are large relative to many neighborhoods in east Dallas. The average lot size of homes sold last year was just over .2 acres.
- The neighborhood is relatively affordable compared to some neighboring areas of East Dallas.
- Many homes in the neighborhood have rear-entry garages.
- Large, mature trees are common throughout the neighborhood.
- The proximity of the neighborhood to major thoroughfares, such as I30 and LBJ/635 makes commuting to other areas of Dallas quick and easy.

Buckner Terrace Schools
The Buckner Terrace neighborhood is served entirely by the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). The neighborhood is split between two elementary school attendance zones, but lies within the same attendance zone for middle and high school:

Edna Rowe Elementary is located on the west side of the Buckner Terrace neighborhood and is walking distance for many children in the neighborhood. Monthly meetings for the Buckner Terrace Neighborhood Association are also held at Edna Rowe.

Guzick Elementary is located on the east side of the Buckner Terrace neighborhood on the Everglade Park side. The school is walking distance for many children on the east side of the neighborhood.

Middle School (Grades 6-8) – Harold Lang Middle School – Located at 1678 Chenault St. Dallas, TX 75228 (972) 925-2400
Lang Middle School is a 170,000 square foot facility that accommodates approximately 1,700 students. The school features art and music rooms, along with technology classrooms and a media center, and a space for fine and performing arts.
High School (Grades 9-12) – Skyline High School – 7777 Forney Rd. Dallas, TX 75227 (972) 502-3400
Skyline High School is a public magnet school that lies on the south side of the Buckner Terrace neighborhood. It was the first high school in the United States to offer a magnet curriculum. The school offers many advanced placement courses in subjects such as English, Math, Science, and offers various courses in engineering (see link below).
