Claremont is a neighborhood of about 600 homes in the East Dallas, TX area located southeast of Forest Hills and White Rock Lake and north of I30. The neighborhood boundaries are Ferguson Road, Highland Road, and Claremont Drive to the northwest, I30 to the south, Honeycutt Road to the southeast, and Dorrington Drive to the northeast.
Claremont is one of the older and more established neighborhoods in East Dallas, and is known for its winding creeks throughout the neighborhood, its active neighborhood association, and for being an affordable neighborhood that’s close to the White Rock Lake area. Claremont is easily identifiable by the sign-toppers on top of street signs throughout the neighborhood.
History of Claremont
Residential development began in the Claremont area in the mid-1950s and peaked in the early to mid 1960s. The Claremont neighborhood also consists of a separate subdivision of homes located west of Ferguson Road on Dorrington Drive. These homes, located in the small Somerset Heights subdivision, were built mostly in the early 1970s. This small area is included within the boundaries of the Claremont neighborhood association and is commonly referred to as part of Claremont despite being located in a separate subdivision.

Claremont Homes and Neighborhood
The vast majority of homes in Claremont are one-story ranch-style homes and cottages built on pier and beam foundations. Most of them have three bedrooms, two baths, two-car garages, and hardwood floors. A select few homes have just two bedrooms and one bath, and a few of the largest homes have as many as five bedrooms and up to three full baths. Life in Claremont
Residents of Claremont enjoy being located very close to some of the best areas of Dallas for recreation, entertainment, and shopping. The neighborhood is very close to White Rock Lake, which is the recreational focal point of Dallas, and is also located close to some other city parks.

Claremont is located very close to some great parks and recreational areas:

- The Dallas Arboretum, located on the southeast side of White Rock Lake, is just on the other side of Forest Hills from Claremont. The Arboretum has a variety of activities for all ages, including the Botanical Gardens, a concert venue that hosts various musical acts throughout the fall season, and creative classes for children and adults.
- Samuell Grand Park, a Dallas public park, is located down Samuell Boulevard just west of Claremont.
- Tenison Park Golf Course is located off East Grand Avenue close to Claremont.
- St. Francis Park, a Dallas public park, is located at Barbaree and St. Francis close to Claremont and features picnic tables, a children’s playground, baseball/softball diamond, and a basketball court.
- The F.O.E. Pool, located in the adjacent neighborhood of Forest Hills, is a great place to cool off in the summertime with friends over a cold beer! The pool attracts quite a crowd in the summer, and this hidden gem is a beloved favorite of locals in the East Dallas area.
Shopping / Dining / Entertainment / Night Life:
The Claremont area is located very close to some exciting areas of Dallas for entertainment and nightlife:
- Close to the Garland Road / Gaston area, which has several restaurants and bars, such as Cane Rosso, a gourmet pizzeria, and White Rock Ale House and Brewery.
- Only a short drive from the Lakewood area, a local hot-spot of original-themed restaurants and bars with a laid-back feel.
- Close to the Claremont Village Shopping Center and the Casa Linda Shopping Center.
- Garland Road shops: A long stretch of shops and restaurants along Garland Road from Buckner Boulevard to Gaston Avenue.

Claremont Voluntary Neighborhood Association
The Claremont neighborhood has a very active neighborhood association. Membership in the neighborhood association is voluntary for all residents, and the modest dues are used to promote crime prevention initiatives, foster the interests of residents and sponsor neighborhood social activities. The area also has an active crime watch group organized as Crime Watch Area 1199.
The Claremont neighborhood is also a member of the Ferguson Road Initiative, which aims “to transform far East Dallas into a safe, beautiful, prosperous and proud community by inspiring hope and working together to achieve a shared vision.” The FRI works to reduce crime in the member neighborhoods and promote and preserve the natural beauty of the East Dallas area. The Claremont Neighborhood Association was founded in 1992 and has promoted the interests of neighborhood residents and businesses for more than 20 years. The neighborhood association has accomplished some major goals, including organizing an annual Neighborhood Night Out for local residents, and creation of the Volunteers in Patrol Program where local neighbors volunteer to patrol the neighborhood after completing a certification process by the City of Dallas, and has supported many recent new developments in the area, such as the Highland Road improvement project and the nearby White Rock Hills Library.
