Hillridge is a neighborhood of approximately 500 homes in East Dallas, TX located just north and east of Claremont.  The neighborhood boundaries are Ferguson Road to the northwest, Lakeland Road to the northeast, Hunnicut Road to the southeast, and Dorrington Drive to the southwest.  The area of Hillridge is roughly 0.3 square miles and is located entirely within the 75228 zip code.

History of Hillridge

The first home in the Hillridge area was built in 1960 and residential development continued until the late 1970s when the last home was built.  The neighborhood is one of many in the East Dallas area that sprung from the rapid development around the White Rock Lake area after WWII.  There were at least four phases of residential development in the Hillridge neighborhood.

Hillridge Homes and Neighborhood

The majority of homes in the Hillridge area are one-story homes, mostly cottage-style with some mid-century modern style homes sprinkled throughout the neighborhood.  The majority of homes in the neighborhood also have pier and beam foundations, although some homes with slab foundations were built in the 1970s.  The predominant floor plan is three bedroom and two bathrooms, but some two and four bedroom homes also exist in the neighborhood.  Most homes also have two car garages.  Lot sizes typically range between .17 and .33 acres for most homes in the neighborhood.  Hillridge is also one of the more affordable neighborhoods in the White Rock area of East Dallas.  The average home size is around 1,700-1,800 square feet, so home buyers get more home for their money in Hillridge than in many areas of East Dallas.

The first thing many people notice about the Hillridge neighborhood is the activity of  neighbors out walking their dogs, jogging, walking, and riding their bikes to nearby White Rock Lake, which is a short distance via the adjacent neighborhood of Forest Hills.   Hillridge is also adorned with many large, towering trees and has a very warm and friendly feel.

Life in Hillridge

The Hillridge neighborhood is located in close proximity to many areas where residents can enjoy various recreational and entertainment options.  White Rock Lake is just a short distance away on the other side of neighboring Forest Hills and Hillridge also has some other parks even closer than White Rock Lake.  The Dallas Arboretum is also located on the side of the lake closest to Hillridge, which has a variety of activities throughout the year, including classes, concerts, and seasonal festivals.

•  Lakeland Hills Park, which features a kid’s playground, baseball diamond, skateboarding ramps, tennis courts, and a walking/jogging path, is located adjacent to Hillridge at the corner of Hunnicut and St. Francis Avenue.
• St. Francis Park, which also has a child’s playground, tennis courts, and great hiking around Ash Creek, is located just across Ferguson Road from Hillridge.
• White Rock Lake, the recreational focal point of East Dallas, is just a short drive or bike ride from Hillridge.  The lake is known for its 10 mile biking/jogging trail, dog park, and many other recreational amenities.
• The Dallas Arboretum, located on the southeast side of White Rock Lake, is just on the other side of Forest Hills from Hillridge.  The Arboretum has a variety of activities for all ages, including the Botanical Gardens, a concert venue that hosts various musical acts throughout the fall season, and creative classes for children and adults.
• Samuell Grand Park is located down Samuell Boulevard just south and west of Hillridge.
• An 18 hole golf course at Tenison Park is located a short distance away on East Grand Avenue close to Hillridge.
• The F.O.E. Pool –a beloved favorite of locals in the East Dallas area –is located in the nearby neighborhood of Forest Hills.

• Just a short drive to the Lakewood area of East Dallas, with dozens of restaurants, bars, shops, and the Lakewood Theater.
• Claremont Village Shopping Center is a short distance away at Ferguson and Lakeland.  The Casa Linda Shopping Center is located a few miles to the northwest.
• Many shops and restaurants located along the Garland Road corridor on the other side of Forest Hills from Hillridge.

Accessibility / Transportation

• Hillridge is located just a short drive from Interstate 30, which feeds into LBJ/635.  There are also many ways to access other parts of Dallas, such as the downtown area, without having to use freeways.
• Several DART bus routes are located on streets that border Hillridge, providing easy access to other parts of Dallas as well.
